雅思词汇：Lose是失去，cool是冷静，那lose cool指的是?

  　01、lose one's cool

　　发火;激动;失去自制力

　　Cool 我们比较熟悉的意思是冷静，镇定。字面上来看，lose one's cool 是失去了冷静和镇定，也就是情绪失控、冒火了。

　　She lost her cool and made a nasty scene with the manager.

　　她忍无可忍了，于是跟经理大吵了一通。

　　You have no idea how crazy this is. I almost lose my cool.

　　你不知道这有多离谱。我几乎失控了。

　　02、a skeleton key

　　万 能钥匙

　　A skeleton key 指的是万 能钥匙。

　　I lost my keys， so I had to get a locksmith with a bunch of skeleton keys.

　　我的钥匙丢了，所以我不得不请锁匠拿来一串万 能钥匙。

　　03、gum up the works

　　把事情搞糟;阻碍发展

　　Works在这个习惯用语里指某种机械装置。Gum则是口香糖。把黏黏糊糊的口香糖塞进精密的机械装置中，不就明摆着是要把事情搞砸吗?Gum up the works 就是比喻把事情弄糟，或者阻碍事情的顺利进展。

　　I'm afraid he'll say something stupid and really gum up the works for us.

　　我怕他会说出些不恰当的蠢话把我们的事情搞僵了。

　　He is an unreliable person, and always gums up the works for us.

　　04、beat one's gums

　　废话连篇;唠叨

　　Gum除了口香糖，还有牙龈的意思。Beat one's gums的意思是唠唠叨叨、没完没了地抱怨。试想，如果你的身边有这么一个人老是烦你，是不是会有给他一拳的想法。

　　He'll drive you crazy - he loves to beat his gums anytime.

　　他会把你逼疯的，他什么时候都爱废话连篇。

　　My classmates always beating their gums about how bad the chow was, or how hard they worked.

　　我的同学们老是没完没了地说这伙食有多差，他们工作有多辛苦。

　　05、blow a fuse

　　勃然大怒;大怒

　　Fuse是保险丝的意思。当电路上的电流负荷量太大的时候，保险丝就会烧断，于是电路也就断了。Burn out a fuse和blow a fuse形容的就是这样的情况。如果用来形容人，就表示一个人勃然大怒、怒不可遏了。

　　He blew a fuse - he fired them on the spot and chased them out of the building.

　　他大发脾气，当下开除了他们，还马上把他们赶出大门。
