  SECTION 2

Hello, and thank you for asking me to your teachers' meeting to talk about the DinosaurMuseum and to tell you a bit about what you can do with your students there.

Well, let me give you some of the basic information first. In regard to opening hours, we'reopen every day of the week from 9.00 am to 8.00 pm except on Mondays when we close at1.30 pm. And, in fact the only day in the year when we're closed is on the 25th of

December. You can book a guided tour for your school group any time that we're open.If you bring a school group to the museum, when you arive we ask you to remain with yourgroup in the car park. One or more of the tour guides will welcome you there and brief youabout what the tour will be about. We do this there because our entrance is quite small andwe really haven't got much room for briefing groups in the exhibition area.

As far as the amount of time you'll need goes, if you bring a school group you should planon allowing a minimum of 90 minutes for the visit, This allows 15 minutes to get on and offthe coach, 45 minutes for the guided tour and 30 minutes for after-tour activities.

If you're going to have lunch at the museum you will, of course, have to allow more time. There are two cafés in the museum, with seating for 80 people. If you want to eat thereyou'll need to reserve some seating, as they can get quite crowded at lunch time. Thenoutside the museum at the back there are tables, and students can bring their own lunchand eat it there in the open air.

When the students come into the museum foyer we ask them to check in their backpackswith their books, lunch boxes, etc, at the cloakroom before they enter the museum proper.l'm afraid in the past we have had a few things gone missing after school visits so this isastrict rule. Also, some of the exhibits are fragile and we don't want them to be accidentallyknocked. But we do provide school students with handouts with questions and quizzes onthem. There's So much that students can learn in the museum and it's fun for them to havesomething to do. O course theyl need to bring something to write with for these. We doallow students to take photographs. For students who are doing projects it's useful to makesome kind of visual record of what they see that they can add to their reports. And inally, they should not bring anything to eat into the museum, or drinks of any kind.

There are also a few things the students can do after the tour. In the theatrette on theground flor there are continuous screenings of short documentaries about dinosaurswhich they can see at any time. We used to have an activity room with more interactive

things like making models of dinosaurs and drawing and painting pictures, even hunting fordinosaur eggs, but unfortunately the room was damaged in a bad storm recently when

water came in the roof, so that's closed at the moment, But we do have an IT centre wherestudents have access to CD ROMs with a range of dinosaur games. These games are a lotof fun, but they also teach the students about the lives of dinosaurs, how they found food, protected their habitat, survived threats, that kind of thing.

And .... think that's all I have to tell you. Please feel free to ask any questions if you wouldlike to know anything else ....

1.30 pm(in regard to opening hours, we’re open every day of the week from 9.00 am to 8.00 pm except on Monday when we close at 1.30 pm)。in regard to 意为“关于”,with re- gards to / regarding to 也表示“关于”的意思。

2.As far as the amount of time you’ll need goes ...(就时间而言......)。as far as sth. goes 意为 “就......而言”,相当于 as far as sth. is concerned。 那样远,远到......,直到......”,如 :You can see as far as the coast.(极目远眺,你可以看到海岸)。

(There are two cafes in the museum, with seating for 80 people. If you want to eat there you’ll need to reserve some seating, as they can get quite crowded at lunch time)。

4.For students who are doing projects it’s useful to make some kind of visual record of what they see that they can add to their reports.“对那些正在做项目的学生来说,用眼睛去记录那些可 以增加到他们报告的东西,这点很有用。” what 引导宾语从句,在从句中做主语,that 引导定语从句,修饰 what they see。

5.In the theatrette on the ground floor there are continuous screenings of short documentaries about dinosaurs which they can see at any time.“在剧院的一楼,有银幕连续播放关于恐龙 的短小纪录片,供学生随时观看。” at any time 意为“随时, 在任何时候”。

(Please feel free to ask any questions if you would like to know anything else...)。feel free to do sth.

  Question 11

  听 前 预 测 :定 位 词 为 c l o s e s 、 M o n d a y s , 提 示 词 为 a t 、 p . m .

  Question 12

答案 25 December / Christmas Day

  Question 13

  Question 14

  Question 15

  答案 (some) tables

听前预测 :定位词为 behind the museum、have lunch,提示词为 there are,本题应填名词。

  Questions 16-18

C F G (IN ANY ORDER)

But we do provide...,but 之后用助动词 do 强调真正能提供的东西,均用了强烈的同义改写 :(1)原 文中的 handouts with questions and quizzes 对应选项中的 worksheet ;(2)原文中的 write with for these 对应选项中的 pen ;(3)原文中的 take photographs 对应选项中的 cameras。

  Questions 19-20

答案 B E (IN EITHER ORDER)

  听前预测 :题干定位词 after the tour,要特别关注时间状语 at present,选项关键词分别为 model dinosaur、films、draw dinosaurs、dinosaur eggs、computer games。
题目解析 :本题难度不大,要注意 making model dinosaurs、drawing、hunting for dinosaur eggs 之前的 used to,表示过去的活动,和题干的 at present 不符,均为干扰信息 ;选项 B 中的 films 在原文中表现为 short documentaries,选项 E 中的 computer games 在原文中用 dinosaur games 替换。
